Ritual Monster mechanics Empty
PostSubject: Ritual Monster mechanics   Ritual Monster mechanics EmptyWed Jun 13, 2007 10:11 am

I've seen a rise in use of Cloak and Dagger, and Mind Crush in my area, specifically used to counter Demise decks, which as spurred a few questions
A) In terms of ritual use, using a generic ritual card such as Advanced Ritual Art, Contract with the Abyss, etc. do you need to state who you plan on ritualing to the field upon playing the ritual card? I can imagine a moment where a player upon having Mind Crush (or Cloak and Dagger) on him , calling Demise, could debate that they intended on summoning another 8 star ritual from his hand instead.

B) Alexis and Chazz are midway through their duel, Chazz plays his End of the World, intent on pulling out Demise, Alexis has two possible ways to stop this, one of which is the card Disturbance Strategy: Let us assume that she plays it, and Chazz draws another Demise, does it count for the ritual End of the World, or did Chazz lose his target? Alexis' second option is to use her Acid Trap Hole on a face down Morphing Jar, intent on hand disruption, Shouldn't Morphing Jar's effect be considered too late to put onto the current chain, and instead start it's own chain after Demise is summoned?

Answer:

When a Ritual Spell Card is activated, you do not state what Ritual Monster you will be Ritual Summoning.

Now, in some cases it is fairly obvious (e.g. "Black Illusion Ritual", "Final Ritual of the Ancients", etc.), while in other cases the Ritual Monster's identity is variable ("Contract with the Abyss", "End of the World", etc.)

In either case, you do not state at activation which Ritual Monster you intend to Ritual Summon.

2. As long as Chazz has an appropriate Ritual Monster in his hand that he can Ritual Summon using the activated Ritual Spell Card (and can afford Tributes for), the Ritual Spell Card will still resolve. So if Chazz draws a "Demise, King of Armageddon" or "Ruin, Queen of Oblivion" from the effect of "Disturbance Strategy", he's good to go.(And has the necessary monsters for Tribute)

Also, no currently printed Ritual Spell Card targets anything. It is not a good idea to use the term "target" when referencing Ritual Spell Cards.

As to "Morphing Jar", "Morping Jar's" effect would begin a new Chain after the Chain with "Acid Trap Hole" finishes resolving. In the situation provided, this would be too late to disrupt what Chazz was doing, since his Ritual Spell Card would resolve before "Morphing Jar's" effect is even added to a Chain.
