Advanced Ritual Art, or ANY Ritual Spell vs Banisher of Radiance etc.

Do cards tributed via ritual spells (primarily Advanced Ritual Art) need to be sent to the graveyard in order to successfully activate their effects?

This came up while I was judging a local (one player had Banisher of the Radiance face up when the opponent attempted to use Advanced Ritual Art, and both my level 2 and I agreed that it wouldn't be able to activate)

Answer:

For Ritual Spell Cards, you are only Tributing the cards in question. It is not a requirement that they reach the Graveyard. The Tributed cards will be removed from play instead. It has no impact on the Ritual Summon.

When resolving "Advanced Ritual Art", Monster Cards sent from the Deck to the Graveyard are instead removed from play. "Advanced Ritual Art" still resolves normally.
