If Volcanic Slicer is unable to attack due to card effect or that it's the very first turn of the duel, can you activate it's effect?
Basically, can you give up something you don't have??
Answer:
This can be a bit context sensitive.
If it is the first turn of the duel, you could certainly use "Volcanic Slicer's" effect even though you will not have a Battle Phase.
You could play "Soul Exchange" during your Main Phase 1 and also use "Volcanic Slicer's" effect. Losing your Battle Phase doesn't prevent you from using "Volcanic Slicer's" effect.
If you declare an attack with "Volcanic Slicer" and an effect is activated that stops the attack or results in a replay, you would not be able to use "Volcanic Slicer's" effect in the Main Phase 2.
Ex: If you were to attack with "Volcanic Slicer" and your opponent negated the attack with "Negate Attack", you would not be able to use "Volcanic Slicer's" effect.
