This situation came up in a duel I witnessed earlier. Another Judge and I were arguing on how the chains would resolve.
Situation 1:
Player A sets 2 Trap Dustshoots, while Player B has 3 cards in hand. Player A ends turn and Player B's Draw Phase begins. Player A activates Trap Dustshoot after Player B draws his card during his draw phase. Player B has no response. Can Player A chain his second Trap Dustshoot after activating his first since the timing would still be correct? Therefore allowing the effect of Trap Dustshoot in Chain Link 1 go through even though he would only have 3 cards in hand?
Situation 2:
Player A sets 1 Trap Dustshoot, while Player B has 3 cards in hand. Player A ends turn and Player B's Draw Phase begins. Player A activates Trap Dustshoot after Player B draws his card during his draw phase. Player B responds by activating Mystical Space Typhoon from hand (or any other quickplay spell card) so his hand will only be 3 before Trap Dustshoot resolves. Does Trap Dustshoot's effect still activate?
I believe the effect of Trap Dustshoot would still resolve in both cases since the time of activation was correct. A simple yes or no to the situations would help greatly.
Answer:
1)
Player A is allowed to chain the second copy of "Trap Dustshoot". The opponent still has 4 cards in their hand, so there is nothing preventing the second copy from activating.
2)
The effect of "Trap Dustshoot" will still resolve as long as the opponent has at least 1 card remaining in their hand when the effect is applied. The requirement of 4 or more cards in their hand only needs to be met at activation.
