Dark Ruler has higher ATK than that of Relinquished.

The corrected text of Relinquished confuses me a little, "If this card is destroyed as a result of battle, the equipped monster is destroyed instead, and any battle damage you received from the battle is also inflicted to your opponent's Life Points."

In this scenario, has Dark Ruler Ha Des successfully destroyed Relinquished as a result of battle, negating its protection and burn effect?

Answer:

From the FAQ:
"If your Fiend-Type monster battles with "Relinquished" equipped with a "Sangan" or a "Witch of the Black Forest" and the equipped card is destroyed instead of "Relinquished", the effect of "Sangan", etc., will activate since it was the effect of "Relinquished" that destroyed it. It was not destroyed as a result of battle with the Fiend-Type monster."

The monster equipped to "Relinquished" is destroyed instead. "Dark Ruler Ha Des" (or the Fiend-Type monster) does not prevent this nor will it negate the resulting damage from "Relinquished's" effect.
