Player Fred has a Face-Up Defense Postion Spirit Reaper.
Player Brian has Summoned Snipe Hunter and uses its effect, discarding a Card and targets Spirit Reaper.
He then rolls a 6.
Spirit Reaper is destroyed.
This is how I would resolve this, regardless of what the roll of the dice is Spirit Reaper is destroyed by the targeting of Snipe Hunter at resolution of its effect.
Is this the correct interpretation?

You are correct, sir.
"Snipe Hunter's" effect targets. "Spirit Reaper" doesn't like that.
