this is what happened:
P1: declares an attack with one of his monsters
P2: activates "Sakuretsu Armor"
P1: chains "Royal Decree"
P2: chains "Dust Tornado" targeting "Royal Dercree"
P1: chains "My Body As a Shield" (to destroy "Sakuretsu armor")
the question is:
can "my body as a shield" still be legaly activated?
Answer:
"My Body as a Shield" needs to be activated in response to the card it intends to negate.
It would have been possible to activate "My Body as a Shield" in response to "Sakuretsu Armor", but at this point it is too late.

How about a twist to this tale.
P1 attacks a facedown Newdoria.
Once Newdoria is destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard, P2 activates its effect targeting P1's monster.
P1 activates My Body As A Shield to negate the effect of destroying a monster on their side of the field.
Is this move legal since it is during the Damage Step? Or does My Body As A Shield need to destroy the card it is negating, and since Newdoria is in the Graveyard it can not be destroyed?
Answer:
From the FAQ entries for "My Body as a Shield":
"You cannot activate ""My Body as a Shield" during the Damage Step, so you cannot use it against a "Man-Eater Bug" or "Cyber Jar" flipped by an attack, but you can use it when these monsters are Flip Summoned."
Due to this, "My Body as a Shield" cannot be chained to "Newdoria's" effect.
